About: State College, PA

State College is located in central Pennsylvania. The city, along with several other surrounding communities, is referred to as "Happy Valley." The area was first given the nickname during the Great Depression, as it was not hit as hard by the economic depression, unlike most places. It is believed that the reason behind its resistance to the depression was because of its college scene. In the late 1980s, a psychological survey ranked State College as one of the least stressful places in the nation.
