Better known as "City by the Bay" Perth Amboy is named for James, the Earl of Perth combined with the original Algonquin term for the area. The city was chartered as a city in 1748 and was one of New Jersey's original townships in 1798. Gene Kelly's character in "An American in Paris" is said to be from Perth Amboy in the film. PERTH AMBOY - Police say they've arrested two in connection with two separate robberies that occurred in Perth Amboy earlier this month. Raheem Rahmel Summers, 20, of Woodbridge and Charles Green, 19, and also of Woodbridge, were arrested on Jan. 21 shortly after the pair of afternoon robberies.

McGinnis School was diagnosed with a rare but infectious intestinal bacteria, prompting the closure of the school until at least Thursday, officials said.
